Books on Coping
Have you ever received a book from a friend that had the perfect message for you at the perfect time? We have and it has always been a blessing. We are so grateful to the people who shared with us the books that helped them. Below is a list of books that we have found to be both educational and inspirational.

Family Support
The Nick Wilson Charitable Group
A dear friend, Jill Metz, began this wonderful non-profit organization in memory of her 3 year old son, Nick Wilson. Each year in late summer, they hold a golf tournament as their main fundraising event. Their mission is to help families and their children on the Bone Marrow Unit at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR. They gladly accept donations year round. This is an extremely worthwhile cause. Last year they raised $40,000, all of which went directly to the families. This year their goal is to reach $50,000.
Candlelighters
Candlelighters’ mission is to be established as a leader in providing support, education, advocacy and hope to all children and their families impacted by childhood cancer in Oregon and SW Washington. They are a network of caring people who have shared and continue to share a common experience of childhood cancer. www.4kidswithcancer.org

Bereavement & Coping
The Dougy Center
for Grieving Children and Their Families
The Dougy Center provides support in a safe place where children, teens, young adults, and their families grieving a death can share experiences. On a personal note, The Dougy Center was so incredibly helpful to us as a family as we grieved the loss of Max. I have been a volunteer there for 5 years supporting other bereaved parents and it is one of the most healing and fulfilling experiences I have ever had. I am eternally grateful for The Dougy Center. If you know of any child, teen or young adult that has experienced the loss of a sibling, parent or grandparent, this is a wonderful resource for dealing with grief in a safe and supportive environment.
The COPE Foundation
COPE (Connecting Our Paths Eternally) is a non-profit grief and healing organization dedicated to helping parents and families living with the loss of a child.
Since 2000, COPE has connected individuals who have experienced similar losses by providing ongoing emotional, therapeutic and spiritual programs. These include monthly parent and sibling bereavement support group meetings, weekly art and movement therapy workshops, and a variety of special programs for our members mourning a child's passing, as well as the community.
